I relearned something for the millionth time this month: Don’t over-commit. I do this frequently, and every time I say I’m not going to do so again, and yet every time I find I have.
Next year if I’m out of town for over half of the month, I will not be hosting Science Sunday, I’ll put it on hold, but since I didn’t learn that, I’m a week behind on getting this put together, and it’s being written after midnight as I start. The collage up above is a small sampling of how amazing and life-changing the past week has been for us. The kids are gone next week, so hopefully I’ll figure out how to put my thoughts into words then.
This month you guys seem to of been busy because there weren’t as many ideas linked up (it didn’t help I apparently totally forgot to include the linkie one week)….
Life Science for kids
As many of us are visiting the beach this summer we run into jellyfish (hopefully not literally) and Lucinda has some great jellyfish videos to share with all of us.
Astronomy science for kids
This past week in New Mexico we saw some amazing constellations and had a chance to see the Milky Way in the night sky, I wish I’d read and remembered Phyllis’ post better about exploring the Night Sky. I want to find the app she mentioned.
Earth Science for kids
In addition to studying astronomy this year, we’re also going to study earth sciences, so this coffee can condensation demonstration will be a lot of fun to do, especially because I know we’ve got a coffee can somewhere in this house, if not I can scrounge up similar.
Chemistry and Physics science for kids
Phyllis also has an amazing series started on teaching chemistry to kids. I’m going to also link to her general chemistry label because I’m sure the rest of the series will be great.
If you’re wanting to start with an easy project, then look at Selena’s project over at “Look, We’re Learning” about light refraction. All you need is a water bottle, some paper, and a marker.
This seems to be the month of cool chemistry posts because Lucinda’s post on making atoms out of pancakes is pure genius. Just don’t read it while hungry.
